Sorrento Photography
“Put a compass to paper and trace a circle. Then tell me which other country has such a concentration of places like Amalfi, Naples, Ischia, Procida, Sorrento, Positano, Pompeii, and Capri” – Diego Della Valle
It was over a decade ago when we landed in Naples for the first time and stayed for an incredible weekend. Part of that trip was to head down to the Amalfi Coast we had heard so much about. The magical love affair started with a brief stay in Furore and Amalfi, and we were hooked.
Now, both Anneli and I have been back on many occasions, more recently for photography sessions and destination weddings.
This particular trip, I was second shooting a wedding in Sorrento for Anneli so we based ourselves in an Airbnb in the centre of the town. We tend to plan an extra couple of days either side of destinations wedding because this allows us the opportunity to scout for locations for the Wedding portraits, but also, the chance to double up on our travel and street photography
Typical Italian City
Sorrento is a typical Italian coastal town in that it’s perched on the cliffs and you have a great time driving along the winding Italian roads to get there. However, once in the streets, it is very different. Cobbled streets and alleyways, jammed with locals going about their daily chores, oblivious to the chattering, selfie-stick waving tourists.
The residents are welcoming and quick to help with making your time there as special as possible. Whether it’s the family style welcome of the Airbnb hosts, or the singing Limoncello man, enticing you into his store for a sample and a chat.
We were also lucky enough to stumble onto a classic car and bike parade in the main street on the Sunday after the wedding. The photographs simply leapt out at you.
Here is the wonderful wedding we shot over on Anneli Marinovich Photography page.
If the Amalfi Coast is on your travel list, feel free to have a look at the day trip we did to Positano. Another wonderful Amalfi coast town.
