Urban Photography Workshop #2 – Tottenham Court Road Station to Leicester Square
Tottenham Court Road Station and Soho Gardens
This Urban photography workshop is tailored for individuals or small groups who want to grow their photographic skills while being out and about in a large city. We’ll meet up near Tottenham Court Road station for coffee and chat to discuss your expectations of the session. I’ll also brief you on the basic ethics of the genre. This is what you should and shouldn’t do while we are out on the street.
Once that’s done, we’ll head into Soho and make for Soho Square Gardens. There are chances to see some streetart and Soho locals relaxing in the gardens before we make our way towards the iconic venues like Ronnie Scotts or Private Eye offices. This area is the best place to photograph the colour and vibrancy of Soho.
Carnaby Street
We’ll head to the touristy area of Carnaby Street to start with, winding our way through side streets and alleyways. This area offers something totally different to test your creativity with some historical places along the way. We might even catch a glimpse of Soho George (Artist: George Skeggs) or other creative residents who frequent the pubs and coffee bars. Carnaby Street itself can be a little manic, but that’s what adds to the atmosphere. You’ll have chances to take wider street photos or get lost in the detail at the entrances of all the quaint shops that line the street.
Chinatown
Zig-zagging our way out of the Carnaby streets lined with bars, coffee shops and theatres, we enter Chinatown to be faced with a wall of colour and mouthwatering smells. The hanging lanterns alone allow for a significant time to be spent in the few streets of Chinatown. The restaurants are filled with food lovers and hard-working people, all getting the job done of earning a living. Along with the colourful restaurants, the chances to photograph portraits his very good here.

Walking Fitness
City walking – Fair to good health. There will be stairs, cobbled stones and loads of crossing busy streets to get that photo we see. We’ll be walking for around 4 hours, maybe more but we’ll stop for a coffee here and there if when we see a quaint place.
Below are some of the images from a typical trip from Waterloo Station to Liverpool Street station. You can also see more of my Street and Urban photography on the gallery – Click Here
