Hippo in Water
I’ve visited and waited at many waterholes in Africa for a decent hippo in water image. I especially wanted to capture the iconic “big yawn” as we all do. So after many attempts, the waiting finally paid off. Due to the overcast conditions and the resultant low level of light, I thought it would do nicely in the black-and-white category.

Both these images were captured in the iconic Kruger National Park of my country of birth, South Africa. I’ve travelled many times to photograph Africa’s finest in this park because of its sheer diversity animals, birds and plants. I was sitting in the Lake placid hide in the park, facing into the sun when two hippos surface. It was only a matter of time
