Many of you will know that I have taken a sabbatical from the wildlife photography this year, well, to write about wildlife instead. I am pushing on the writing career and have focused on getting the two series I am working on, out to market.
I’ll be posting some of my favourites images from the past 10 years, so hope that you enjoy a little trip down memory lane with me.
First up, it has to be the Black-maned Lion of the Kalahari. The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park to be precise. Along with the Arctic circle and Mana Pools in Zimbabwe, the Kalahari is still one of my favourite places I have been too. This male was spotted on the second-last day of a 22 day trip. In the early evening as I neared the camp of Twee Rivieren, this fella was just lying in the river bed.
I took a few photos and then realised that he had just had a huge meal as his stomach was massive. The photos were looking a little comical, so I thought the king deserved a little more of a flattering angle. I reversed the 4×4 a few meters back and popped on the long lens.
The serene look of a male, well fed, along with the wonderful afternoon light, highlight this one as one of my favourites.
