4 photography courses I offer

Four photography courses I offer

Introduction

Do you love taking photos? Do you want to improve your skills? If so, you’re in luck. Below are the details of what is covered in the four one-to-one photography training courses I run throughout the year.

The courses are typically for the newbie or amateur photographer who aren’t seeing the photographic results they want. My goal is not to solely teach you how to take photos but, more importantly, how to learn photography. It can be a lifelong hobby, or career, so helping you to get a grip on the basics, plus understanding what you still must learn, is what I strive for.

You cannot be taught how to drive a car or ride a bicycle. You can be told a sequence of things that need to happen, but you are the one who must take control and do it for yourself. Photography is the same. I will teach you some camera and light basics and give you a list of things to look out for, but you have to go out there and put it all together for yourself. There is no simple or easy way around that.

The Basics of Digital Photography course

"Learn the Basics of Digital photography - Wayne MArinovich Photography"

Duration: 4 hours (1-hour indoor theory + 3-hour outdoor practical)

Price: £125

Locations: London and Brighton

What is covered: If you’re a complete beginner to photography, then the Basics of Digital Photography course is the perfect place to start. This course offers the basics, including camera operation, learning to see light and shadow, composition, and help with some projects you may want to try.

Using my experience of 35 years of photography and many years of teaching computer systems, the aim of this course is to help you learn the fundamentals in a fun way that allows you to acquire the skills to get the photos you want. The first part of the session is the theory section, and then we head out and practice your new skills.

Digital Photography for Amateurs course

"Digital photography course for amateurs - Wayne Marinovich Photography"

Duration: 4 hours (1-hour indoor theory + 3-hour outdoor practical)

Price: £125

Locations: London and Brighton

What is covered: If you’re already familiar with the basics of photography and want to take your skills to the next level, this is the course for you. It covers more advanced topics like the exposure triangle, depth of field, camera shake, movement, and practising with the focusing system. We explore different composition guidelines in more detail to help push your creativity.

We will critique your photos as we walk, reshooting photos where necessary to show you how to work the scene in front of you. Part of this course is getting to understand what you want from your photography journey and how to get there.

The Travel Photography course

"Travel photography course in London and Brighton - Wayne Marinovich Photography"

Duration: 4 hours (1-hour indoor theory + 3-hour outdoor practical)

Price: £125

Locations: London and Brighton

What is covered: I’ve called this course “Postcards at Home” because you’ll learn to take good travel photos in London or Brighton (UK) before you leave on your trip. If you want to hit the ground taking really good photos, what better way to learn the basics than at home? We’ll run through the equipment you’ll need (slightly different to other genres) and how to shoot in different locations.

Travel photography is about storytelling, requiring a little more planning than simply going out to shoot with the rest of the tourists. Planning what you want to shoot is so important because you need to understand light, the best time of day, and tourist behaviour to tell your story. We’ll cover composition, cityscapes, different viewpoints, local cultures, iconic landmarks, and markets, and practice working a scene until you’re happy with the photos you’re getting.

The Urban Photography course

"Urban and street photography course - Wayne Marinovich Photography"

Duration: 4 hours (1-hour indoor theory + 3-hour outdoor practical)

Price: £125

Locations: London and Brighton

What is covered: This course covers several walks I regularly go on myself. Walks that showcase the wonderful colours and stories of the urbanscape. If you’re fascinated with capturing the unique beauty of the urban space, this is for you.

We cover the basic ethics of being out on the street, how to use light and shadow to convey the contrasting times of day, and using unique composition to get you the photos you want. As you shoot, we’ll critique your work and reshoot them if necessary, showing the value of trying different angles of the same subjects or landmarks.

We’ll discuss the importance of having defined projects to work too vs the option of simply walking around and photographing anything and everything. There are many sub-genres to focus on within urban photography, and we’ll primarily look at street photography, architecture, urban abstracts, and travel elements (storytelling on the streets)
